At 1 o’clock pm, after the greeting words we drew the players with the involvement of students of the Tulipános Primary School.
Students of the school’s chess workgroup, Norbert Antal, Menyhért Balázs, Bence Bognár, András Börzsey, Máté Gyurasits, András Karácsonyi played ten-minute Blitz Chess matches. The competition was assisted by Miklós Várkonyi.
Helpmates and attendants cheered together for the players.
During the student matches other participants played different chess games, like French Chess or Peasant Revolt.
The winner of the Korall Cup Chess Competition for Children was András Börzsey. Bence Bognár got the second, Menyhért Balázs the third place. Each participant received a certificate, a T-shirt with the logo of the Global Chess Festival, a mug and a balloon. The contestants who managed to get a prize received a chess set too.
The Korall Cup Circle of Friends presented the school with copies of the Sakkpalota coursebook edited by Judit Polgár, the best woman chess player of the world ever. The books were given to Mrs Gulyás, leader of the Tulipános Primary School’s Chess Workgroup.
At 3 o’clock pm, after the opening ceremony we drew the adult participants.
The adult contestants played pools in two groups of six. Members of the first group were András Takács, Tibor Horváth, Péter Torma, László Zalka, József Herenkovics, Imre Stoller. Members of the second group were Tibor Gosztola, Zoltán Kovacsics, László Szilágyi, Attila Mécs, Károly Gróz and Péter Neubauer.
Those contestants who achieved the same position played a derby against each other. 1st-2nd places Gróz - Zalka, 3rd-4th places Gosztola - Torma.
The winner of the Korall Cup Chess Competition for Adults was Károly Gróz. László Zalka got the second, Péter Torma the third prize.
